| Recommended Acclimation Procedures
To ensure the health and survival of your new fish or other aquatic
animal we highly recommend that you follow this list of acclimation procedures
closely. While we understand the desire to rush and put your new animal
into your tank we can not stress enough the importance of following these
steps closely. Failure to do so may cause the death of your new animal.
Once you have recieved your shipment please follow these steps:
1.) Turn of the aquarium lights, and lower the lights in the room you
are working in. Bright and sudden light can cause stress and trauma, which
may lead to death.
2.) Float the shipping bag in your aquarium for 15 to 20 minutes. This
will allow the tempurature of the water in the bag to match that of the
aquarium.
3.) After floating the bag cut open the top of the bag and roll down
the lip of the bag a couple inches to create an air pocket and keep the
bag afloat.
4.) Add 1/2 cup of aquarium water to the bag every 5 minutes until the
bag is full, but still floating.
5.) Remove the bag from the aquarium and discard about half of the water.
Do not put this water into your aquarium.
6.) Float the bag back in the fish tank and add 1/2 cup of water to
the bag every 5 minutes until the bag is full, but still floating.
7.) Net the speciman from the bag and introduce it into the aquarium.
Discard the water in the bag. Do not put this water into the aquarium.
8.) Monitor your new addition for a few hours. If you did not use a
quarintine tank make sure that no other fish are acting aggressivly towards
the new fish. This can cause stress to the new fish and may lead to death
or disease.
Some Tips To Keep In Mind
- Never rush acclimation. The total time should only take about 1 hour.
- Keep your tank lights off for atleast 2 hours after acclimation.
- Make sure your tanks paramaters are correct before hand (pH, salinity,
etc.).
- If a fish looks dead on arrival, don't be alarmed. Most fish will
recovery quickly once acclimated.
